Welcome to the SRT blog No. 28

6th November 2020 – Welcome to our blog post No. 28

So the Government has announced a further lockdown for us here in England. You will be receiving an informative update letter from Ann and Lynn.

It does mean that our Sunnyside Up Café is again only able to serve take away food and drinks, with no seating available but both of our Farm Shops stay open with essential items for our local communities at Hemel, Mon-Sat 10 to 3pm and Northchurch Mon-Fri 10 to 3pm. Do continue to use them if you can.

Here’s Matthews halloween pumpkin picture.

It’s coming up to the end of the fungi season now but we are still spotting different ones around the sites. Northchurch found a mushroom called a ‘Wood Blewit’ whilst tidying up the old compost heap.

The Cats are becoming more friendly, taking up space in the bubble greenhouse workshop section, where wood is stored ready to add to the new fencing around the site, when the weather allows.

Steph is taking flowers off of the basil plants to get one last round of leaves harvested before the frosts set in.

Amazingly Wates have donated and are laying the slabs which have been going down this week at Northchurch. A massive Sunnyside thank you goes out to all in the Wates team.

Delivery, craning them off, base layer of sand and then the concrete ready for the slabs to be laid.

Wow, it will make such a difference walking around the site with a solid, base below your feet – Grahame is well pleased!

The chickens and the pigs have been enjoying a diet of pumpkins, left over from Halloween.

Here’s a few photos from this week at the Activity Centre.

A group photo from hedge cutting on site and then out on contract weeding at St Peter’s Church in Berkhamsted with Noreen Shazadee, Luka Grace and Tim Abbotts

Camilla is getting creative in the kitchen. Covering a chocolate orange with maltesers, a chocolate overload BUT favourites rolled into one.

Amazing – it’s been turned into a Christmas pudding.

Celebrating Bonfire night this week at HFG – complete with hot chocolate with marshmallows with biscuits made and decorated by the pink team.
