Activity Centre

Our purpose built Activity Centre is situated amongst beautiful surroundings off Ivy House Lane in Berkhamsted. Trainees develop their skills in a range of activities including site maintenance, gardening, cooking, making jams and chutneys and woodwork.

We manage the allotments, orchards, coppice and conservation areas around the Centre. We grow a range of fresh fruit, herbs and vegetables to organic standards which we sell to the public and use to make preserves and lunch for trainees.

In recent years we have started beekeeping. We keep 100,000 honey bees and have trained a dedicated team of employees, volunteers and trainees to become beekeepers. Not only does this promote a strong and healthy bee population, the therapeutic nature of keeping bees is especially good for anxious people. We harvest enough for us to sell and leave plenty for the bees to eat over winter.

If you are looking for somewhere to hold an event against a relaxed, rural setting, we may be able to help. We have two summerhouses: one at Hemel Food Garden which is set amongst our tranquillity gardens, and the other at Northchurch next to an orchard. Our cosy café at Hemel Food Garden is also a popular place for hire. All three venues are ideal for informal meetings and somewhere to go for creative sessions, children’s parties, team building days, yoga classes and BBQs.
