Welcome to the SRT blog No. 109

22nd July 2022 – Welcome to our blog post No.109

A gentle week at each of the Sunnyside sites, as it’s just been soooo hot! Hope everyone managed it ok.

With the warm weather the butterflies are flocking to the pollinator friendly plants. The Big Butterfly count is on until Sunday 7th August and you can take part.

Last Friday BRE Group joined the Activity Centre – lifting and then laying new mypex in the fruit area – thank you. Great teamwork.

Fresh redcurrants were picked from the Activity Centre fruit cage and cos lettuce grown on from seed…and sold on the market stall this week.

Tim & Rosie on the market yesterday and

Josie, Becca and Noreen last week

Sharon & Ellen harvesting more lavender.

NFU Mutual presented a fantastic cheque to Northchurch in support of the café development. Thank you. They will be back volunteering later in the year as well.

It’s the turn of the Northchurch litter pick crew to be out and about in Little Gaddesden this week. Team Roxie, Hollie, Charli, Jonny, Simon and Christian.

Lee, Georgie and Nina meeting the ducklings who are growing fast!

Continued care of the animals during the hot sunny weather. Slower and in the shade as much as possible.

Piggies on the move with Nigel after the heatwave to the caravan field. Making way for the arrival of the ducklings.

Preparing their outside space next to the stables.

Potting on the parsley

A new sign post has gone up opposite the far shop at Hemel Food Garden. Thanks to The Repair Shed for the super wooden sign support.

The pallet garden had a pep up this week. Trainees were allocated a pallet, and free reign with the plants. Floral / edible or both?

Fun in the sun……

….is it a bird? Is it a plane?

No, it’s the Sunnysiders swooping in to grab your litter.

Stay cool this summer – free haircut with every hedge trim….oohh!?

Chicken cuddles.

A little early – spotted………………. a Christmas tree up in Hemel Old Town.

Ready for filming….

Have a great weekend….

…until next week.
