Sunnyside Trustee Recruitment

Sunnyside Rural Trust is a Hertfordshire based charity providing training services to adults and young people with learning disabilities. We are a thriving charity and social enterprise offering training and work experience for 174 vulnerable people. We train people with learning disabilities to acquire skills in a number of rural activities. These include beekeeping, looking after chickens, growing a wide range of plants and produce, landscaping and garden maintenance. We have a focus on the full “plot to plate” cycle, from sowing seeds and nurturing plants to making produce to sell in the farm shops or at markets. We do all of this as environmentally friendly as possible.

Our training and work experience take place across Dacorum in Hemel Hempstead, Berkhamsted and Northchurch in a range of tranquil settings. These include ancient woodland, allotments, orchards, greenhouses, cafés and farm shops. Sunnyside is a charitable trust and currently has a 6 strong Board of Trustees, a Senior Management Team led by a CEO and COO plus some 50 staff.  As Sunnyside continues to grow the scope and extent of the services we provide, we need to increase the size of the Board of Trustees better to manage the expansion.

Biographies of the current Trustees can be found on our website (here).  We are looking for like-minded people who can show commitment to our mission and share our values which are:

  • To value our people and work as a team.
  • To care deeply about our environment.
  • To have a can-do approach to our work.

Specific expertise is always welcome but is desirable rather than essential.  Whilst we have access to or already have within the team expertise in most specialist areas, we would welcome Trustees familiar with:

  • The Local Government environment (especially Dacorum/Hertfordshire).
  • Adult Education.
  • Café/Shop/Retail operations.

The investment of a Sunnyside Trustee is as much time and energy as you wish to offer but with a minimum of 4 Board meetings per annum and one or 2 Site Liaison visits each year.

If becoming a Trustee of Sunnyside sounds interesting to you, please contact either the Chair of Trustees miker@sunnysideruraltrust.org.uk or CEO, Keely Siddiqui Charlick, keely@sunnysideruraltruist.org.uk for more information or to arrange to meet and visit a Sunnyside site.
