Orchard Nursery Manager

Sunnyside Rural Trust is a registered charity who has developed an innovative model of care-based support that offers training and work experience to adults with learning disabilities, within social enterprise and horticultural settings. Across our services we grow a range of produce and plants that include bedding plant contracts for local councils and perennial plants for garden designers. We also have farm shop cafés and provide therapeutic services that include caring for animals.

Hours: Full time 37.5hrs 

Salary: Starting at £28,000pa – £32,000 (FT) 

We are looking for a people person who is passionate about plants! We are recruiting a manager for our new Orchard Nursery Project. This person will be responsible for the effective management of high quality, person led services for people with learning disabilities around horticultural therapy, training and skills development, social enterprise, and supported employment. 

You will work as part of a team to ensure our services operate to a high standard and that the team of trainee propagators receive the support, training and guidance needed. The post holder is responsible for supporting our trainees as the primary focus of our work and ensuring horticultural activities are planned and undertaken in line with horticultural best practice the site/project business plan.  

The post holder will work closely with the Horticultural Coordinator Hemel Food Garden (HFG), The Head Gardener Serge Hill Gardens. (SHG), and in the medium term, the T.O.N horticultural therapist. 

Based: Primarily at The Orchard Nursery, Serge Hill Bedmond (T.O.N) but will on occasion work at any Sunnyside site.
