Co-op Local Community Fund

We’re delighted that Sunnyside Rural Trust has been chosen to benefit from the Co-op Local Community Fund 2021 / 22

At a time when funds for community groups and charitable organisations are becoming more difficult to access, we’re incredibly grateful for this opportunity to make a real difference in Dacorum.

We’re raising funds this year to employ a person with learning disabilities to run our community bakery, and train to teach others.

Sunnyside offers training and work experience for over 130 vulnerable, young people and adults, in the local community. We train people with learning disabilities in a number of rural and retail activities. This all takes place across Dacorum, in a range of tranquil settings and in as environmentally friendly a way as possible.

We aim to offer our schools and community groups baking courses; particularly focussing on the therapeutic benefits of baking and nutritional value. This would further add to our employment of people with learning disabilities. We would then use the income from this project to continue to fund salaries and create more opportunities.

To help us raise vital funds, we’ll be relying on Co-op Members. When a member buys selected branded products and services, the Co-op will give a helping hand to local causes like ours. To become a member costs just £1, with benefits for you and if you shop, for us.

We really hope that people will visit the Co-op website or download the Co-op app and select us as their local cause.

Since the Co-op launched the fund 4 years ago, they’ve shared over £60 million with local causes thanks to Co-op members donating their 1% when they buy selected Co-op branded products and services.

The funding round will run for 12 months until 22nd October 2022. During this time, Co-op Members will be able to select us as their cause. The Co-op have doubled the amount they give to the local community on behalf of their members. For every £1 you spend on selected Co-op products and services, 2p will go to community causes. They’ve also made it possible for members to donate the rewards they’ve earned to community causes.

A Big Sunnyside thank you

Every little helps

The Co-op Local Community Fund for 2020 / 21 has now finished and we have received an amazing £2929.02 – A Big Sunnyside thank you

We’re raising funds to create a training and employment facility where vulnerable young people and adults with learning disabilities could acquire horticulture and animal care skills.

We would be able to increase the number of clients using the site, as well as the number of staff and volunteers. The project would address the health needs of a vulnerable client group by offering stimulating exercise, therapeutic activity and social networks.

We want to help communities to come together, co-operate and have a positive impact on community wellbeing – physically and virtually.
